I’ve compiled a list of the most frequent questions that I have received over my career. It’s normal and encouraged for clients to ask many questions when choosing to work with a Hypnotherapist. WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is an open state of mind, an altered state, often described as a deep state of relaxation and concentration, where the mind becomes distant and detached from every day cares and concerns.
It is a different level with heightened awareness where a person is highly responsive to suggestion but is aware of their surroundings and what is going on around them.
All hypnosis is self hypnosis. "Since the subconscious mind is our driving force, we always do what our subconscious believes. Since it will believe anything that it is told, we can program it if we bypass the conscious mind and substitute new, constructive ideas for its existing negative ones,"

CAN I BE HYPNOTISED?
Yes! Everyone can! The lightest state of hypnosis (Apha) is experienced when you are driving long distances in autopilot mode, when you daydream and reminisce, read books and watch television. During the light hypnotic trance your mind is slowed down a little, your focus is narrow, your breathing is slower and you are more relaxed. Your conscious mind wanders but you still continue what you are doing.
When you are drifting off to sleep it is called the hypnogogic state, when awakening it is known as the hypnopompic state. In these states you are up to 200 times more suggestible than when you are fully awake (Beta).
Hypnotherapy is not suitable for 3 groups of people:
1. Children under the age of 5
2. People who suffer from severe mental health issues
3. People who chose not to be hypnotised
WHAT IF I FALL ASLEEP?
That is not possible! When you are under hypnosis your senses are heightened by 30% and you are fully aware of what is going on at all times.
20 minutes of hypnosis is equivalent to approximately 4 hours of sleep. The slower the brain activity, the deeper the hypnosis.
WILL I REVEAL MY SECRETS OR DO ANYTHING AGAINST MY WILL?
When you are in hypnosis you are in full control of the situation at all times. Therefore, you are in control of everything that you say and do.
Hypnosis can not make you do anything or think anything that is not desired or desirable by you.
HOW DOES HYPNOSIS WORK?
The human mind is separated into the subconscious and conscious mind. Most people only use 20% of their mind; the conscious mind. Hypnosis allows direct communication with the subconscious mind, which operates differently to the conscious mind. It does not question, criticise or analyse and takes every piece of information literally. Its language is the imagination and the main function is to protect its owner. It contains all your wisdom, intelligence and memories and is responsible for things you don't have to think about like your breathing rate, blood pressure, body temperature, heartbeat rate and lots more!
CAN I BE TOO INTELLIGENT FOR HYPNOTHERAPY TO WORK ON ME?
No - the opposite is true! People with higher intelligence have higher results because intelligence is directly correlated to suggestibility! The more intelligent you are, the easier it is to be hypnotised!
